                   YMCA AEROBIC CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Aqua- Zumba- Ditch the workout and enjoy the pool party! You will learn a safe, effective and challenging water -based workout that integrates the Zumba philosophy into traditional aqua fitness disciplines

Step-  A method of aerobic conditioning  that uses a platform of varying heights upon which participants step up and down using a variety of patterns and combinations. The class addresses the fitness components of cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurence and flexibility. This is a high intensity, high energy class.

Interval Step- Cardio and Strength interval training. Shorter intense intervals alternated with slower segments provide maximum caloric burning in a minimum amount of time.  The intense intervals can be done at different intensity levels, making the class suitable for beginner and advanced students.

Step N' Tone-  A class made up of alternating intervals of step aerobics and body toning.  This class is designed to achieve a high calorie burning workout by raising and lowering the heart rate....get ready to sweat!  great for beginners or advanced.

O.A.S.I.S  Low impact aerobics, strength and core workcombined to a step to a healthy active lifestyle.  For adults and older adults that are beginning a cardiovascular training program or for those who are continuing on the path to improved over all well being.

Dance Aerobics- Designed for those who are 50+ and enjoy low impact dancing. Floor work & stretching are done at the end of the class

Fit N Fabulous-beginner to Intermediate , mid to low impact, simple and fun class.  this is a class for those who haven't been working out. and need to start a fitness program  with floor movement or for those who just love to move to music.Warm- up, stretches, 20 to 25 minutesw of rhythmic patterns and dance steps. Finishing with a cool down and Yoga and Pilates floor and mat movements.

Cardio Blast-  A high intensity class with somewhat easy choregraphy. The exercises are taken from various types of cardio classes such as hi-lo aerobics, kickboxing, etc. This class builds stamina and agility.

Kickboxing-  A form of aerobics using kickboxing and boxing movements in patterns and combiations. The class will improve cardiovascular and muscular endurance, flexability and body composition.

Pyramid/Interval-  Ten high impact intervals, combining cardio and strength training.

Strength Training- A superb method to increase muscle mass and to firm up.  Resistance tubes and bands, as well as dumbells and manual resistance are used. All major muscle groups as well as lower back and abs are targeted.

Ultimate Abs/Backs- Nothing but Abs and Back! Strengthen the back and tighten your tummy muscles through a series of standing and floor exercises.

Functional Activity- No impact, low intensity exercise class, where most exercises are done while seated on a chair. This class concentrates on improving balance, flexibility, and overall strength for a healty independent life style.

Beginning Yoga-  Developed to provide the students with an introduction to the practice of yoga. Emphasis will be placed on proper postural alignment in standing and sitting asanas or poses. Introduction of breath work or pranayama, as well as the building of strength and flexibility.

Hatha Yoga- Using breath and posture holding to gently open the body, this class  offers the student a slow, meditative practice. proper alignment, body awareness, and breath are emphasized in this traditional class.

Yoga Flow- Using breath and a sequence of postures, yoga builds strength and endurance and opens the body through the flow of breath from one posture to another.This class introduces the student tovinyansa, movent linked to breathing techniques and bandhas, or internal locks.

Yoga Groove- Enter the doorway  of spiritual awareness through rhythmic music and body movement. This class contains basic Yoga poses, focusing on mobility of the spine and joints and heart expanding positions. Allow yourself to feel the rhythm within your body by adding simple flowing dance movements. Feel your groove!

Sunrise Yoga- This Hatha Yoga class will theach the mind body connection. Balancing the strength of the asanas or poses and the ability to use the breath to relax and release tension in the body. Through the use of props, the body's movements will be linked to the breath with an emphasis on building strength and flexibility. It's a great way to start your day!

YoPI- A blend of Yoga and Pilates movements done to increase balance, flexibility, and core strength.

Pilates- Strengthens and tones the muscles through simple mat work. You will learn how to engage your"core" muscles. The muscles are stretched and strengthened through simple sequences of quality exercises. Using proper breathing, alignment and concertration. For all levels.

Gyrokenesis- Incorporating many key principles from yoga, dance, gymnastics and tai-chi and working the entire body through natural elements of spinal movement, this class gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating exercises. Postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath, making fluid movements feel more like dance then traditional yoga or pilates. This is for all levels and ages.

Water Walkers- A deep water exercise program that uses rectangular water shoes with side flops. This program is for all levels of fitness. A series of different type of exercises from several positions(vertical, side, back, and chest) promote a series of health benefits such as balance, coordination, flexibility, and endurance. Program can be used to increase physical endurance and strength or to rehab from neurological and orthopedic injuries.

Tai Chi Form-  This class is a 10 week series that will meet twice a week, to learn and practice the entire Yang Style Long Form of Tai Chi Chuan. A series of flowing movements and postures, always done in the same sequence like a dance. Those with no long form expierence can join through the 4th class, or wait for the next series to begin. Please wear comfortable clothing for stretching, bare feet or shoes that grip the floor.

Tai- Chi Stretch- Drop ins always welcome. Includes flowing movements of Chi Kung, Tai Chi exercises, stretching, breathing and relaxation. Bring a Yoga mat if you have one(not required). Please wear comfortable clothing for stretching, bare feet or shoes that grip the floor.

DEEP RELAXATION- By tightening and relaxing muscles we coax the mind to let go. The art of deep relaxation is one of the safest, most effective ways to manage stress, relieve pain, maintain health and attain piece of mind

Cardio Tennis-  A cardio fitness class that uses basic tennis skills to get your heart pumping. All ages and skill levels welcome

Healthy Back- This 55 min. class will incorporate easy to followexercises to keep your back healthy in everday activity.

ZUMBA-Groove to the beat of latin rhythms and easy to follow moves in this dynamic, body energizing class!
